Will Cosmetic Surgery Really Change Your Life?
As technology and equipment becomes more sophisticated so too does cosmetic surgery become more and more specialized. It’s easy to use liposuction to have fat removed from specific areas or to enjoy a precise breast enlargement using saline or silicone implants in a procedure that only takes a few hours.
Take note - having cosmetic surgery done is no longer just for women. Men are opting to have a variety of cosmetic surgical procedures themselves. In the male arena of today you can have nose jobs (rhinoplasty), face lifts, and even eye lifts - all are considered fair game.
Now that cosmetic surgery is easier and more precise it’s also not as expensive as it used to be, it’s also far less painful, but this alone doesn’t explain why so many more people of either gender are having plastic surgery done on themselves.
This increase seem to be happening because in our American culture today there are very few things that are more important than how someone looks. The studies that have been done seem to support the theories that the more attractive you are the more chance you have of getting a job, even over people who have greater skills and more experience and have applied for the same job.
We are inundated with images of perfect looking women and men on TV, in print ads, music videos, movies, as well as everyplace else we look, and now people seem to believe if they have a certain look this will guarantee their lives will be wonderful.
We also see famous celebrities showing off their various cosmetic surgeries daily on television as well as in movies, so it’s easy for people to believe if they just looked better their lives would be perfect.
While it’s true some cosmetic surgical procedures can give a boost to your self-esteem, that feeling isn’t going to last as long as that nose job unless you’re willing to add some serious inner work along with positive thinking to your life. Changing the outside of yourself gets you temporary relief when you are dealing with deep inferiority feelings, but true self-esteem and confidence has to come from the inside of yourself.
